ADEX Series First Episode: Ar. James Law Emphasizes Social Purpose of Architecture
Havells Insignia presents ADEX a Series by Realty+ Masterclass premier episode featured Architect James Law, CEO and Founder James Law Cybertecture. Vivek Yadav, Senior Vice President, Havells India Limited welcomed the visionary architect and elaborated on the company’s initiatives to facilitate the development of an ecosystem of world class designers in India, Ar James Law presented his works and while giving examples from his own work stressed that technology is an enabler that can help find solutions for the social problems. For instance, explaining his O-Pod homes Ar Law explained by application of technological solutions at a minimal cost and by involving the people, humble concrete pipes were turned into decent homes for the poor. Likewise, his I-pod building in Dubai sets the tone for the future where buildings will be like a device in which we live and the buildings will monitor all our activities to tune our building environment accordingly. Ar James Law also talked about his Cybertecture academy and grooming the future generations. Speaking about his 10 year association with India, James Law said, “I can say the highlight of my career is my working in India and the relationship with India. Culturally we are very similar in way of working and living and therefore the bonding is unique, Indian housing problem is like what many other countries are facing. The current slums situation that are organic housing development is not sustainable and long term solutions are necessary through re-defining of affordable housing, and working out various models of housing for specific requirements from student housing, transient housing, etc,” Concluding the seminar, the internationally acclaimed architect James Law advised budding architects to always consider the social impact of their work and try to learn from various cultures and regions. “My travel to various parts of the world has taught me many things. Sometimes you might find solutions in one region that can be the missing ingredient for a problem in another region.” Remal Behl Head for Enterprise Business, Havells India Ltd summarized the taeaways from Ar James Law’s session and express sincere gratitude to the speaker as well as the audience.
