Ahead of the monsoon, about 500 structures that are rickety and beyond repairs are proving to be a major cause for headache for the BMC. Despite declaring them unfit for habitation, the civic body is struggling to get the buildings vacated owing to court cases, protests and other technical issues. The BMC has identified 499 buildings as “dangerous” and Andheri-Jogeshwari (West) belt in K(West) ward tops the list with 51 buildings marked unsafe this monsoon. This is followed by Vile Parle (East) where 38 buildings have come under the C1 category (requires urgent demolition) this year.
