Over 1.42 lakh properties, including residential and commercial establishments, in the 11 newly merged villages will pay property tax to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) from this April. The standing committee on Thursday approved a proposal to impose property tax in the fringe areas. The villages were included in the PMC limits in October 2017 and property owners are now liable for paying taxes as per PMC’s existing slabs. Standing committee chairman Murlidhar Mohol said, “As per the data, 1.42 lakh properties are listed in the 11 merged villages. Property owners need not worry as the administration will not impose the tax at one go. It will be increased by 20% each year for the next five years. The civic administration had used a similar formula in 2007 when 23 villages were first merged with the PMC limits,” he said.
