Suneet Singh, Real Estate and Marketing Professional The current scenario has brought with it a string of challenges and it is essential to keep our feelings intact at a time when people are on a rollercoaster ride due to the COVID-19 situation. What is natural to us human beings is how we make routines, how we know we are to wake up in the morning, head to school, then college, then the office and so on, and how we must leave the house for essentials. Suddenly, in this time we were forced to live confined to our houses, seeing the same faces everyday, without any external factors at play. It is safe to say we have almost adopted the lifestyles of our pets! Who live their whole lives in the comfort of their owners’ homes and what is natural for them is to be happy & satisfied with that. This huge shift of behaviour has had mixed responses – there are those who have enjoyed the solitude initially until it eventually caught up and became daunting, and there are others upon whom the situation has indeed taken a toll, as being confined and does cause all sorts of depression and evoke all sorts of mixed emotions – because it is not natural to us. What COVID-19 and the lockdown has taught us that it is important to inspire ourselves to look after ourselves, relax, meditate, and develop the inner strength to take on the world without much external reliance. It is imperative to understand the conscious and sub-conscious mind and pay attention to both positive and negative feelings, which eventually becomes a part of one’s attitude and personality – it is crucial to train your mind to handle these emotions in the most effective manner. Our emotions evolve with our day to day experiences and make us grow and learn, and ultimately take us to the next level of self-actualization. Having said this, emotional wellbeing can be brought about both inside out – from within ourselves, and from outside in, from our interactions with others. With regards to external factors, our relationships are a large chunk of what define us as individuals and well-balanced and healthy relationships can contribute greatly to our overall wellbeing. It is important to reach out and make an effort to nurture them to the best of our capacities to build long lasting connections. This can come about by introspecting about the relationship and look within yourself to truly give those relationships a sense of purpose and meaning to life as opposed to just having labels of these relations on a superficial level. Besides this, a perfect state of emotional wellness can be truly achieved by first discovering yourself, which requires first identifying and acknowledging the answers you seek, and then setting out to find those answers, thereafter ultimately implementing them into their lives with discipline It is upon us to find our lost smile, which is right under our nose, but we seek it everywhere else – in other people & in other tasks. Another important thing which greatly adds to one’s sense of wellbeing is to give back to the society and community. The root of this notion being ‘gratitude’. An individual with immense gratitude will always be a very evolved human being who takes nothing for granted and who not only appreciates what they have but go the extra mile to share that with others who are less fortunate than them – which is sure to evoke huge contentment. Emotional wellness also goes hand-in-hand with physical wellness.  Hence, its equally important to work on our fitness and striking the right balance between the two. Once we are aware of our emotional & physical needs, we need to act appropriately and go all out to live a healthy & happy life. Your emotional wellness is your responsibility towards you - you owe it to yourself. It is alright to be selfish towards yourself to be happy and healthy, only if you are happy can you spread happiness with your family & friends, to the community and to the world. You must follow your dreams and ambitions and respect and recognition will follow you. We need to unlock our creativity to enhance every area of life, from home, the workplace and your health. With the complete belief in oneself, behavior can change and bring feelings of warmth, safety, security and joy. We need to rid ourselves of rigidity and practice openness and curiosity knowing very well that we are all imperfect beings, all on a journey that is a big mystery. Finally, a great deal of reassurance can be had simply by reminding ourselves that there are some things in life that are universal and some that must be defined and decided upon through introspection.
