Architecture and product design are strongly connected with each other due to their similarity regarding planning phases and design processes. Both competences are serving one societal mission: To simplify, optimize, and not to forget to somehow “beautify” peoples’ life as well, and to engage with solutions for civilization.   What influences a product design? Its human behaviour that plays a crucial role and strongly influences both, architecture and product design. In the past, architects started, or rather “needed” to help in designing products since the market confronted them with nearly no suitable standardised solutions. In the meantime, the market and its situation changed greatly. Suddenly, one can find so many serial product solutions out there that now it is a real challenge to find individual solutions.   How is the design requirement changing in terms of products? The demand for tailor-made, exclusive product design has grown tremendously and it’s all about individualization, top quality, and getting the most high-end and distinctive features. Another way to explain it: urban planning deals with the needs of larger population groups, while architectural planning focuses on the demands of smaller entities of the society (e.g. families, peer groups, etc.).
