Roadside America employees launch fundraiser to buy I-78 attraction
A well-known Pennsylvania roadside attraction is for sale, and three of its employees have launched a long-shot bid to buy it themselves.
Tuesday marked the start of a 35-day Kickstarter campaign to raise $750,000 to buy, relocate and restore Roadside America -- a tourist destination off Interstate 78 in Shartlesville and home of a miniature village that portrays eras of American life.
"We know that crowdfunding this kind of capital is a long shot, but we also know that there is an absolutely incredible community that loves Roadside America and doesn't want to see anything negative happen to it," said employee Jon Jordan in a news release Tuesday morning.
Jordan is the supervisor of the miniature village, and is conducting the campaign with trains foreman Richard Peiffer and landscape artist Jeff Marks.
The Kickstarter campaign went live at 10 a.m. and will run until midnight on June 13. Donors will not be charged unless the fundraising goal is reached.
