Newport home sells for $4.35 million
A house called The Orchard, at 180 Narragansett Ave., Newport, recently sold for $4,350,000, according to Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty, the agency that represented the seller. The 14-bedroom, 11,388-square-foot house has 13 bathrooms and four half-bathrooms. It sits on 4.75 acres. The house was designed by George Champlin Mason & Son and built in 1873 for George R. Fearing of yellow Milwaukee brick, Ohio limestone and a Monson slate roof. It includes a lap pool, two hot tubs and an indoor pool. It has marble floors, paneled wood libraries, and original ornamental plaster work. It came furnished and with artwork. The park-like grounds feature one of the largest private pools in Rhode Island. A detached carriage house includes two residential units, five garage spaces, a rec room and two greenhouses. David Huberman, of Gustave White, represented the seller. Stacie Mills, of Vanderbilt International Properties, represented the buyer.
