Kenosha County real estate agents are finding ways to sell houses despite a short supply of listings. Kenosha County home sales edged up slightly in May, with local real estate professionals generating 240 sales, 4.3 percent more than they produced for the same month a year ago, according to statistics released Monday by the Wisconsin Realtors Association. While the increase was only 10 more homes, Michelle Volkmar of ReMax Newport Elite said she is optimistic June sales will continue the positive trend like past Junes, traditionally the month when the most homes are sold. Since January, 864 homes have been sold, which is 30, or 3.6 percent, more than for the first five months of last year. Meanwhile, sales have come at a higher price to homebuyers. A short supply of existing housing inventory has buyers often paying more than the seller’s asking price and sometimes bidding against other prospective buyers to get the house they want, according to Volkmar. Last month, the median price for home sales price was $177,000, 8.9 percent, or $14,500, more than the median price for May 2017. For the year, the median county home sales price is $167,950 or 5.6 percent higher than in the first five months of last year. Racine County sales rose 5.6 percent in May, when 284 houses were sold. For the first five months of the year, 1,034 houses was sold, three less than for the first five months of last year.
