Glasgow politicians are backing a campaign for more women in power during a time of global crisis ahead of International Women’s Day. This year’s International Women’s Day event, which takes place on Sunday, March 7, will be held online and MPs including Patrick Grady, are showing their support for the campaign. #March4Women 2021 is telling the UK government it’s time to step up as a worldwide champion for diverse women’s leadership. He said: “As a member of a party that has the first female First Minister of Scotland and the first gender balanced cabinet anywhere in the United Kingdom it’s so important that women’s voices are heard at the top table and that policy is made with that gender inclusive focus.” MPs up and down the country are joining celebrities like Stephen Fry and experts Helen Pankhurst, great-granddaughter of the suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst in sharing their ‘Stop Telling Half The Story’ images on their social channels ahead of International Women’s Day. The campaign is urgently demanding more women in decision-making roles to lead us out of crisis, as equality slides backwards worldwide in the wake of COVID-19. Patrick Grady added: “So at Westminster we will be continuing to call for policies that support women and indeed that women’s voices from all around the world are heard at the top table when the COP 26 comes to Glasgow later in the year.”
