EXPAT homebuyers are returning from London to roll their sleeves up for a big renovation project in Geelong West. The buyers beat three other bidders to secure the three-bedroom Edwardian house just off Pakington St.Hodges, Geelong West agent Marcus Falconer said the 344sq m property at 117 Autumn St sold for $570,000 at Saturday’s auction. “The group is from London, they’ve returned after about five or six years abroad,” he said.“They’ll do a full reno.” The house is the epitome of the renovator’s delight, a gorgeous Edwardian residence on a corner property that attracted a range of buyers to the street, which is walking distance from the famous Geelong West retail strip. The appealing street facade has a north-facing veranda with timber fretwork, with peeling paintwork the clue to the true nature of the property. Inside, high ceilings were among the preserved period features including the retro kitchen and meals area that features a vintage wood stove in good working order. The property has a private backyard with a garden shed and single garage with side-road access. The median house price in Geelong West is $700,000, having risen 11 per cent in the past 12 months, according to CoreLogic.
