Vijayawada civic body to flatten illegal structures
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is gearing up to take action against unauthorized constructions across the city. The planning wing of the VMC has already intensified the exercise to identify illegal constructions and initiate demolition proceedings. VMC sources said while its officials were busy in election-related duties, some builders on the city’s outskirts tried to take advantage of the situation and started constructing illegal floors. Most such illegal activities have been identified in areas like Andhra Prabha colony, Rajeev Nagar, Ajith Singh Nagar, UrmilaSubba Rao Nagar and a few other places. VMC officials said they have identified around 60 such illegal constructions. Meanwhile, the municipal administration department has extended the application date for BPS to regularise illegal constructions completed before August 31, 2018. VMC authorities are also holding a special drive to motivate builders to apply for the scheme. The civic body is expecting a revenue of around Rs 35 crore from BPS in financial year 2019-20.
