As India’s largest manufacturer of grey cement, with total capacity of 117.95 MTPA, UltraTech plays an important role in fulfilling that commitment. Taking on that responsibility, UltraTech has during 2021 invested in numerous sustainable upgrades at one of its integrated cement manufacturing units – the Maihar Cement Works, located in Madhya Pradesh, India. Production capacity is expected to increase by 50% on completion of the project. The upgrades include some of FLSmidth’s flagship pyro equipment such as the Low NOx Calciner and JETFLEX® Burner. The benefits enabled by these solutions, such as reduced NOx and CO2 emissions, and opportunities for alternative fuels, make these solutions a key part of FLSmidth’s MissionZero programme in cement. MissionZero is the pledge to enable FLSmidth customers to run cement production at zero emissions by 2030. The Maihar plant was originally built by FLSmidth in 1976 and has seen several upgrades since – most recently in 2020 – where two new FLSmidth Cross-Bar® Coolers were installed on both lines. “We are pleased to continue our long-lasting collaboration with UltraTech. With the new upgrades to the pyro sections, installing MissionZero flagship offerings, such as the Low NOx Calciner and JETFLEX Burner, UltraTech makes a significant investment in future-proofing its sustainable production,” says Carsten Riisberg Lund, Cement Industry President, FLSmidth.
