Truckers Seek 12% Hike in Cement Transport Charges
Truck owners under the umbrella of The Chhattisgarh Transport Association on 20th March demanded a 12 percent hike in charges to carry cement from factories in view of the increase in diesel prices. The demand was placed when Chhattisgarh Transport Minister Mohammad Akbar met the transporters and representatives of the cement companies, an official press release said. The truckers have been on strike since February 26 vis-a-vis cement transportation. The transporters initially sought a hike of 40 percent fare but climbed down to 12 percent. The cement companies want the increase should only be up to 5 percent. At the meeting, the transporters said that if the cement companies accept the 12 percent hike, then the work of transporting cement will restart soon. The transportation of cement should be done without any disturbance so that the public do not suffer, said Akbar. The Minister assured the transporters that their demand will be seriously considered by the cement companies.
