The Telangana government is set to come up with a scheme of Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) based installation of rooftop solar energy for individual consumers. According to official sources in the Telangana New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TNREDCL) the scheme is in the final stages of development and would be announced soon. As per the modalities prepared, each individual household will be able to install roof top solar energy panels to produce the power needed to meet their needs and the cost incurred can be paid through EMIs. For this the State government has already held discussions with several banks for tying up for new loan scheme To begin with the scheme will be offered to government employees. Those who opt for solar energy will not have to pay for distribution and fuel surcharge. Further, the employees would be paying EMIs instead of paying power bills, sources said. As of now the State has installed 1000 megawatts of solar energy installed capacity and tenders to add 2,000 megawatts are under process. However, the Centre wanted the State to come up with at least one solar park in the State which is in the planning stage. Apart from solar energy, the State is already producing 100 megawatts of wind energy and efforts are on to scale it up by adding another 500 megawatts. It is also producing 128 MW of energy from other sources like biomass.
