The Noida Authority installed over 1 lakh (1,15,472) LED streetlights across the city and is in the process of identifying more dark spots. A total of 83,554 streetlights have been installed in urban areas and 18,965 in rural areas of the city. The industrial areas account for 12,953 LED streetlights. As many as 76,499 LED streetlights were installed by Tata Projects Ltd and 26,020 lights were procured by the authority from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under a renewable energy service company (RESCO) model — that provides energy to consumers from renewable energy sources. RWAs of sectors 11, 22, 82, 112, and more have welcomed the move citing better lighting in their areas. As against traditional streetlights, the LED lights will consume 54.25% less energy with carbon emissions of 2.7 lakh tonnes in seven years as compared to 6.1 lakh tonnes of traditional bulb-based streetlights. In the drive to light up the city with LEDs, the authority has focused on areas used for daily public commute, service roads as well as residential sectors and parks, Noida entry and exit points, bus stops, major crossings, and isolated areas, especially in industrial sectors, to make them safer for women workers. Meanwhile, the authority has issued a toll-free number ‘18001029574’ as well as a mobile app ‘Noida Smart LED Light’, which can be downloaded for complaints regarding non-functional streetlights. “All complaints are noted and addressed at the centralised control command centre in Sector 39, which is operated by a team from the Tata Group,” said Tyagi, adding that due to the efficiency of redressals, Noida has been selected for Smart City Empowering India Awards 2020 by MoHUA, best cities under silver category award by SKOCH and IOT award, for successful implementation of the project.
