Sand continues to be elusive in Vijayawada
Despite the implementation of the new sand policy from September 4, locals are still facing problems with insufficient sand supply in the city. The situation is such that several builders have alleged that the online portal of the mining website displays no stock board, within minutes of opening the bookings for sand. In a bid to control illegal sand mining and transport across Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress government introduced the online sale system. The government established stock points at various locations to help denizens purchase sand from their nearby locations. Moreover, the government made Aadhaar card mandatory for the registration process to book the sand online. As per the new rules, the online sand booking window opens every day at noon wherein the buyers have to book the desired quantity of sand depending on the availability from the nearby sand stock points.
