The department of registration and stamps has decided to attach a report containing details of property (size, location and market value as per collector’s guideline) with property deed papers from Monday. The step has been taken to prevent evasion of stamp duty by tampering with details of property. Recently, four cases had surfaced where service providers had allegedly shown less value of property causing loss in stamp duty to department. The department had found that at time of entering data of a property, the vendor used to tamper with its details like location, size etc so that the stamp duty calculated was less than actual tax while at time of registering the property, actual details were furnished to prepare the deed documents. Officials at sub-registrar office near Navlakha Square had detected four such cases recently during scrutiny and had urged Indore office to launch an investigation into it. According to senior officials, the buyers in these cases claimed that it could have been typing mistakes from service provider’s end. They however have agreed to deposit the difference amount with department, the officials said. After such cases surfaced across the state, department of registration and stamps decided to attach a report containing details furnished at time of data entry of property with deed papers to remove chances of errors, if any, in deciding the actual stamp duty. “IG Stamp and Registrar, KalpanaShrivastava, has instructed to attach the report with property deed. The practice is expected to check value of stamp duty and it will be in practice from Monday,” Indore district registrar Dushyant Sharma told media.
