Prices of Steel Furniture Set to Increase
Prices of steel furniture will increase as the cost of raw materials had increased. KNP Rajagopal, president of the steel furniture merchants’ association, said, “We have decided to increase the prices by about 25% from the current rates.” The price of one tonne of steel was Rs 53,000 before the outbreak of Covid-19, but it costs Rs 83,000 now. The steel prices in other countries are more or less stable and only India is witnessing the increase in steel price. Salem district is known for manufacturing of steel furniture and its related products. The price rise will affect people from the lower and middle-class segments as the affluent had switched to wooden wardrobes and almirahs.
