Over 4.5 crore allotted for rebuilding flood-hit houses in Kochi

District collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla said Rs 4.7 crore has been allotted in the first phase of the project to provide financial aid to reconstruct houses destroyed in the floods. As per a preliminary survey conducted using rebuild Kerala app, it has been found that 2,923 houses were completely destroyed in the floods. While in Paravur taluk, where 2,057 houses were destroyed, 436 houses were damaged in Aluva taluk. The number of houses destroyed in Kochi, Kothamangalam, Kunathunad, Kanayannoor and Muvattupuzha are 46, 126, 122, 96 and 39 respectively. The scrutiny of applications for financial assistance for the destroyed houses has been progressing. The district administration has allotted Rs 4.70 crore for reconstruction of 485 houses, the scrutiny of which has been completed. In the first installment, each house owner would be getting Rs 95,100. The complaints that some of the houses destroyed in flood have not been covered by the survey will be looked into, district collector said. Assistant executive engineers from PWD and irrigation departments would be holding inspections. At the same time, 823 persons in the district gave back the immediate financial relief given by the state government. They either don't deserve the aid or their names figured twice in the list. As many as 352 persons sent back the funds in Kochi taluk while 157 in Paravur taluk returned the money. People from Kanayannoor (131), Aluva (964), Muvattupuzha (19) and Kothamangalam, too gave the funds back. The district administration received a total of Rs 82,30,000.
