Noida waste-to-energy plant project put on hold
After a 20-day-long protest by residents over the construction of a waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in Sector 123, garbage disposal at the site was stopped. The Noida Authority, meanwhile, is looking for an alternate location for the project. Officials said the move follows directions from UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s office, shortly after a delegation of protesters placed their concerns before him. Protesters had raised health and environment concerns over the setting up of a WTE plant near their residential colonies. The protest had turned violent earlier this month, with stones being pelted at police teams near the site. Eighty residents were arrested on June 4. Residents, however, had refused to bow down to the administration and the NGT order.
