Nine sand lorries seized
Three lorries used for transporting sand illegally and an earthmover were seized by Revenue Divisional Officer G. Saravanamurthy here on Sunday and Monday. Acting on a tip off on illegal sand mining in Manmangalamtaluk, Saravanamurthy conducted vehicle checks at NanniyurPudur on Sunday night. He intercepted a lorry which was found transporting sand without valid documents and permission and ordered its seizure. On Monday, he ordered the seizure of two lorries and an earthmover used for mining and smuggling sand at Navalnagar. Complaints were lodged with the police against the drivers and owners of the vehicles. About 45 units of sand, valued at ?5.40 lakh, and nine lorries used for smuggling sand and three earthmovers were seized, an official release said.
