The second consignment of river sand from Malaysia could arrive at the Ennore port in the next ten days, even as the first consignment is set to be sold out in the next couple of days. Official sources at the Kamarajar Port Limited at Ennore said more than 50,000 tonnes of sand was being loaded at the Penang port in Malaysia. This would take about three days. The vessel would likely arrive at Ennore on November 18, a port official told media. However, changes in weather conditions could change the arrival date. The first consignment from Malaysia of about 52,000 tonnes has been nearly sold out. “The stock will last for the next three days,” said sources, adding that the demand for sand had spiralled in the last few weeks. The Tamil Nadu government’s first consignment of river sand imported from Malaysia arrived at the Ennore Port on September 23. Sales began on October 8 with the price fixed at Rs 10,350 for one unit of sand measuring 4.5 tonnes.
