Almost 40 ceramic units on Pipri road in Morbi are staring at a probable forceful shutdown after natural gas shutdown after natural gas supply to these units have been suffering low pressure. For the past three days, the problem had been taking place only at the night time, but on Tuesday production at these units stopped even during the day time. Industrialists’ guesstimates peg the loss of past three days at Rs 20 crore and with no solution in sight for the problem, they fear escalation of loss. They have also made a representation on the issue to chief minister Vijay Rupani. In March first week, the National Green Tribunal had ordered switching all the ceramic units of Morbi from coal to gas. Around 550 units that were using coal gasifiers had to shut down production due to this diktat According to ceramic unit owners, 300 units are still not functional while the remaining had switched to gas.
