Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) players such as Messe Frankfurt and bC Expo India feels that the lack of ‘quality space’ for exhibitions in India is keeping down the possible growth of industry in the country. “India has very few world-class venues for organising exhibitions. Handful of venues even in metro cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru limits the options for us which is not the case in Europe or US,” says Igor Palka, CEO, bC Expo India Limited. Igor’s company organises a bi-annual event of BAUMA Conexpo among others which has seen a 15% growth in the last five years. Almost all the expos are witnessing a growth in the visitors and exhibitors showcasing the interest even by international companies towards India. “These exhibitions give both international and national companies a platform to come together and look for possible business opportunities in the country. While international companies come to understand the market, government policies and regional players, national players get to see the advance technology and look for possible tie-ups,” says Raj Manek, Executive Director, Messe Frankfurt. “These international companies which have been part of our international exhibitions have high expectation from us in India. While we try to provide all those facilities here, the only difference is the support given by the authorities and limited venues,” says Manek. He however adds that authorities are slowly understanding the benefits of such exhibitions and their attitude and mentality is changing. Currently Pragati Maidan, Expo centre, Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, CIDCO Exhibition Centre, Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre, Chennai Trade Centre and Hitex Exhibition Centre are few of the famous exhibition venues in India.
