Soil testing for the controversial steel flyover between Basaveswara Circle and Hebbal began. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had on December 20 directed the BDA to undertake soil testing and land surveys for the project. The BDA in turn assigned the task to Larsen and Toubro. The agency has written to traffic police seeking cooperation during the process. "Ballari Road is a high-density corridor, which is why we need help from the traffic cops. Soil testing is a must for infrastructure projects and is the starting point," said a BDA official. The BDA has already earmarked land that it'll have to be acquired to make way for the 7km-long steel flyover. However, the NGT's interim order isn't yet vacated and the court directed the government not to begin construction work until the next hearing on January 18. The tests are crucial in determining the bearing capacity and load sustenance strength of the soil on which the infrastructure project is scheduled to come up.
