Kajaria Ceramics invests Rs 150 crore in AP plant
With construction activity picking up, Kajaria Ceramics, one of the largest wall and floor tiles manufacturing company in the country, is investing Rs 150 crore for setting up a polished vitrified tiles making plant near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh (AP). The plant, which would be commissioned by September next year, would have capacity to produce 5 million square metres (sq.mtrs) tiles per year. The company currently produces 20 million sq.mt of polished vitrified tiles. This would be the second plant for the company in AP, which closed 2015-16 with revenues of Rs 2,448 crore and produces 68.6 sq. mt of tiles per year across its 10 plants in the year. “The last two years has been very tough. But things have started to look up since February. The next three years would be positive for our industry,” said Ashok Kajaria, chairman and managing director, Kajaria Ceramics. Demand has started to pick up. We expect better growth in the coming years, Kajaria who was in the city for an ‘Architects and Builders’ meet, said. The union government’s ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’, passing of the Real Estate Bill and ‘Housing For All’ initiatives is also contributing to the growth of the industry, he stated.
