Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has received about 2700 applications for setting up MSME, apparel and handicraft units near the Jewar airport. Riding on the announcement of the Greenfield Jewar airport in Greater Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government has already attracted more than Rs 1,500 crore of investments by allotting land close to the upcoming aviation facility to interested companies during the lockdown period. In January this year, the authority had come out with a scheme offering plots in a bid to monetise land parcels near the upcoming Jewar airport. “We have received 100 applications in the apparel category, 2458 in MSME and 84 in handicraft. We are now scanning the applications and will come up with a draw date soon,” said Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA. According to the YEIDA starting May, it has allotted 17 plots to different companies, which will provide employment to about 25,000 workers. The authority also expects to collect Rs 600 crore from the auction of land marked for hotels and office space. Similarly, there will be an auction of land for petrol pumps, shops, offices, kiosks and about 1,000 residential plots. The Uttar Pradesh government has earmarked about 5,000 hectares of land in Jewar on Yamuna Expressway for an aviation and transport hub, linking the Indian capital to a greenfield airport that is expected to serve the eastern and southeastern suburbs of the sprawling metropolis.
