India has targeted to produce 300MT of steel per annum by 2030 against 100 MT now, Union Steel Secretary Aruna Sharma said. Dr Sharma, who was here to attend the 7th Asia Steel Conference jointly organized by the Indian Institute of Metal and Tata Steel, told news persons here today that the Centre expects Odisha to contribute 25 per cent of the targeted 300 MT. The union steel secretary said Odisha has 50 per cent of the total iron ore deposits in the country and 20 per cent of the steel manufacturing is being done in the state. Replying to a question, she said there was no shortage of raw materials but there is some problem due to cost escalation. The Centre along with the state government is trying to sort out the problem soon.
