The International Solar Alliance is India’s initiative. With 19 countries already ratifying its framework and a total of 121 countries situated between Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn being a part of it, India seems to be taking lead in fighting against the carbon emissions cause environmental haemorrhage. Despite the global warming changing the weather patterns, and global players fighting over who pollutes more in various climate summits organised over the years, nearly 41 percent of the electricity needs of the world are still fulfilled by coal, as per the World Coal Association. And India has decided to take substantial action in this regard and formed an organisation ISA which would utilise the solar energy to produce electricity which reduces to carbon emission in the atmosphere. Though the idea is conceived by Indian PM Narendra Modi, France has also played the role of a founding member to form ISA with a plan to work on efficiently exploit solar energy and reduce the dependence on the fossil fuels. An alliance of 121 sunshine countries situated between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, India would lead the ISA with its headquarter situated in New Delhi. India had already set aside $2 billion for solar projects in Africa out of the government’s $10 billion concessional line of credit for Africa.
