The government may impose anti-dumping duty of up to USD 782 per tonne for five years on Chinese ceramic rollers, used in tiles industry, to provide a level playing field and guard domestic players from below-cost imports. The commerce ministry's investigation arm, Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD), in its final findings of probe has stated that dumping of the product has caused material injury to the domestic industry. The authority is of the view that imposition of anti-dumping duty is required to offset dumping and injury, it said in a notification. The directorate "recommends imposition of anti-dumping duty" for a period of five years "to address the injury to the domestic industry", it added. The recommended duty ranges between USD 223.74 and USD 782.25 per tonne. The decision to finally impose the duty was taken by the finance ministry. Futura Ceramics Ltd had filed the application for initiation of the anti-dumping investigation.
