The UT administration has sought a sector-wise report on building violations in the city from its estate office. The estate office had recently submitted data on building violations in commercial areas of Chandigarh to the administration, on directions from a committee formed by administrator V P Singh Badnore. But now the administration has sought a report on the entire city, including residential properties. Recently, the administrator formed two separate committees to address problems of traders and industrialists. The estate office, in an earlier report, submitted that there were violations in commercial areas, like removing internal walls in SCOs, using basements for activities other than storage and construction of upper floors on bay shops and booths. There was a long list of demands of traders. One such demand was of allowing certain activities in shops, which is not permissible as per present rules and regulations. Various departments, including the estate office and municipal corporation, had issued notices to violators in the past. A major demand by the Chandigarh BeoparMandal (CBM) is to roll back misuse charges which were slapped on violators.
