Drone survey to identify illegal constructions in Hyderabad
After taking up a special drive to clear encroachments from footpaths in Greater Hyderabad, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department has now decided to crack the whip on unauthorized constructions in the city. For the first time, a drone survey is being planned to identify illegal structures. “Our plan is to first focus on illegal structures that have come up in 1,000sqm and above. The drone survey will begin soon as a pilot project in Serlingampally and Chandanagar areas,” MA&UD principal secretary Arvind Kumar told media. In these two areas, most of the constructions are of five floors and above and built on 1,000sqm. Officials suspect there could be many violations in sanctioned building plan and actual construction. Curbing illegal constructions is a major concern for the government due to lack of surveillance, lack of manpower and corruption in town planning department. Officials admit that unauthorized structures continue unabated even after introduction of mortgage rule and mandatory occupancy certificate. Town planning department noticed that some builders are raising illegal structures after obtaining occupancy certificate to get their mortgage portion released from municipal corporation.
