CREDAI to restore 10 waterbodies in the city
The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI), Chennai, has signed an MoU with Greater Chennai Corporation for the restoration of 10 waterbodies in the city. For this, CREDAI Chennai has engaged the Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) to carry out the restoration work and aims to complete the process in the next six months. CREDAI Chennai has picked up tanks in Ambattur (ArraaKulam, Ayyankulam, VairavanKulam), Valasaravakkam (Mayttukuppam Ganga Nagar pond, Appaduraipillai street pond), Alandur (Aalavancherrykulam), Perungudi (Mandapamkuttai, Amara pond) and Sholinganallur (Thallikullam and SarayaKulam). “A lot of water gets wasted during rain. So we wanted to somehow find a way to save water and decided to take up this project. Given the acute water shortage our city is facing, it is imperative that we take a step in trying to conserve and restore our waterbodies,” said W.S. Habib, president, CREDAI Chennai. “We will work with the local community in these locations and seek their help in maintaining these waterbodies in the longer run,” he added. According to CREDAI Chennai, this project involves investments to the tune of ?50 lakh. Raj Cherubal, Chief Executive Officer for Chennai Smart City Ltd., said, “Within a span of one year, over 120 waterbodies have been restored. A few more will be ready before the monsoon starts.”
