Cement demand in India to reduce by 10-15%
Cement demand in India could contract by an unprecedented 10-15% this fiscal if lockdown/ other social distancing measures extended till April end, according to a recent report by CRISIL. Extended vulnerability will deepen the damage for the sector to 20-25%, added the report. On a quarterly basis, cement demand would be a washout in the first quarter of this fiscal, given lockdown measures across India that would hurt construction. Demand will pick up only from the second half of this fiscal.
