Brick kilns in the district have started manufacturing bricks again after their production was halted a month ago following continuous rain. The Erode district has a total of 60 brick chambers and 28 of them are situated within the city limit. Most of them are situated along the roads leading to Karur, Bhavani, Ammapet, Andhiyur and Sathyamangalam. According to brick chamber owners, it would take at least 16 days to produce a single brick. First seven days are used to make the brick wet using clay while the rest are taken to dry the wet brick. They said the best time to produce bricks is summer. “But bricks will be needed throughout the year and we have to meet the demand at any time,” said S Kandavel, one of the chamber owners.
