Ambuja Cement Ltd. concluded its national truck driving event ‘Ambuja Safe Driving Championship 2017’ at its Bhatapara plant in Chhattisgarh.The event received an overwhelming response as 800 entries were received from Ambuja’s 16 plants across the country; 20 contestants made it to the grand finale which was held recently and the drivers, who displayed exceptional skills while demonstrating highest standards of road safety performance, were rewarded. The participants underwent challenging tests – both theory and practical sessions – that assessed their knowledge on road safety, vehicle inspection and on-road assessment. Drivers were also put through steering wheel control tests, serpentine tests, target and dash test to further certify their skill and overall capability. The Winners of the Ambuja Safe Driving Championship 2017 inArticulated Vehicle category were Paramjeet Singh from Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, Naresh Chand Kumawat from Rabriyawas, Rajasthan and Nitheesh C.from Mangalore, Karnataka. The winners in Rigid Body category were Mr.  Dharmavir from Ropar, Punjab, Parbat Vala from Ambujanagar, Gujarat and Irshad Ali from Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. Commenting on the event, Ambuja Cement Health & Safety Head, Ashwin Raykundalia said, “Logistics continues to form an integral element of the country’s economic progress. Truck drivers are those unsung heroes who clock in countless hours of highway and byway driving each day. It is imperative for us to show them the respect and dignity they deserve. Besides instilling a feeling of pride and responsibility among them, we believe this competition must also provide a great opportunity for drivers to introspect, rejuvenate and improve their capabilities.” Also present at the event were the Sub Division Police Officer and Regional Transport Officer, who commended Ambuja Cement’s endeavours while presenting their views on the Road Safety and their concern with road accident figures of Chhattisgarh. The prizes were handed over by Ambuja Bhatapara’s Commercial Head N K Nuwal and Operations Head, A Rayudu. The event was held under the guidance of the unit head R C Kothari.
