Vetrotech Saint-Gobain has unveiled a new bullet-resistant glass, a 65mm thick Vetrogard®, which has been developed, tested, and certified in India. Vetrotech’s first-of-its-kind NIJ bullet resistant glass in India has been tested against Level 3 bullet resistance as per the NIJ standard. The product is designed to protect from bullet strikes from an AK-47 rifle. Vetrotech Saint-Gobain offers a one-stop system solution for the high-security glass doors and partitions, complete with bullet-resistant frames, glass and accessories for various applications. The new range is manufactured at the state-of-the-art production facility in Chennai, India. The high-security glass solutions find application in both commercial and residential buildings. The high-security glasses find applications in high-end luxury residences, banks, embassies, hotels, offices, government buildings such as secretariats, and VVIP rooms. NIJ (National Institute of Justice) is an American test standard to determine the ballistic resistance offered by a material. A 7.62mm calibre bullet travelling at 838 m/s is shot 5 times from a distance of 5 metres from the glass. The glass qualifies as NIJ Level 3 bullet resistant when none of the bullets perforate the glass and when there are no glass splinters (NS) on the non-attack side.
