Satellite imagery identifies illegal buildings in Pune region
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has carried out a pilot project using medium resolution satellite imagery to identify illegal structures under its jurisdiction spread over 6,984sqkm and comprising 816 villages.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has carried out a pilot project using medium resolution satellite imagery to identify illegal structures under its jurisdiction spread over 6,984sqkm and comprising 816 villages.
The pilot test for approximately 228km area spread across Chakan, Talegaon, Shikrapur and Ranjangaon has helped identify nearly 300 structures which, after validation, have been found to be illegal.
The PMRDA is all set to issue notices to the owners of these structures and replicate the same for the entire area after the success of the pilot project.
