Steel Authority of India's captive mines under its Raw Materials Division (RMD) clocked record numbers in production and dispatch of iron ore in the first quarter of 2018-19.
RMD’s iron ore mines at Kiriburu, Meghahatuburu, Gua, Chiria in Jharkhand, and Bolani, Barsua, Taldih, Kalta in Odisha together produced and dispatched 5.19 million tonne (MT) and 5.11 MT respectively, notching a growth of 15.4% and 16.7% over corresponding period last year.
The mines have also achieved best ever monthly production of 1.85 MT in June. In particular, RMD’s Bolani mines clocked its highest ever loading of 151 rakes in June 2018. June, an official statement issued on Thursday said.
The significant rise was led by changes in the mines system brought in by RMD. Also, a reduction in loading time of rakes at mines and turnaround time of rakes from steel plants resulted in highest ever despatch of 1,463 rakes in Q1FY19 from RMD mines. Opening of Barsua mines also added to a spurt in volumes.
