A committee has been formed to look into setting up of an integrated steel plant at Bayyaram in Khammam district. IT & industries minister KT Rama Rao along with energy minister Jagdish Reddy and principal secretary, IT & industries department JayeshRanjan held a joint meeting with officials of Singareni Collieries, department of mines and geology and the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation Limited (TSMDC) on the matter.
The committee, which will include officials from these departments, will study the process of establishment of the Bayyaram steel plant as well as availability of land, water and iron ore resources and road connectivity. It will submit a detailed report in one month.
As per AP State Reorganisation Act 2014, Telangana had been assured a steel plant at Bayyaram. But the Centre recently made it clear that the integrated steel plant is not possible and that the Act had only talked of examining the feasibility of setting up the plant.
