Even though the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) collects a hefty fee from property owners for road cutting to lay drinking water and sewage lines to the building, the authorities have failed to relay the asphalt after the work. Not only does this damage the roads, it also poses a danger to commuters.
MCC has 65 wards with around 2 lakh properties. As new residential and commercial buildings are coming up in its limits, roads are being dug up to lay electricity cables, drinking water and underground drain pipes for buildings.
While building owners blame MCC authorities for not relaying the asphalt, officials allege that most building owners dug up roads illegally for laying pipes without taking permission from the civic body.
MCC commissioner, in a recent circular, said that as there have been several incidents where residents had dug up roads to lay water and UGD pipes and electricity cables without getting MCC permission, officers have been directed to identify such works and compulsorily collect fees for road cutting to prevent a financial burden on the civic body. The fees must be collected during building construction.
