The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MNREC) is inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from foreign and local investors to conduct detailed feasibility studies and measurement of limestone deposits in Chin State.
The government is exploring the possibility of a cement plant being established in Hakha Township on 4300ha of land. "Preliminary studies suggest that the area proposed for the project has sufficient limestone to support a cement plant capable of producing 5000tpd of cement, there is potential there," said Mang Hen Dal, the regional minister of agriculture, livestock and mines.
This would be the first cement plant in Chin state and the fourth state-owned plant in the country, which now includes some 20 cement factories.
