Water crisis hits hard on city residents every summer and apartment dwellers suffer the worst as they have to buy water from tanker trucks at high prices. The All Kerala Apartment Owners’ Association (AKAOA) and city-based builders’ associations want Kerala Water Authority (KWA) to initiate steps to provide individual water connection to each flat in an apartment complex.
The water authority considers an entire apartment complex as a single unit and provides only one water connection.
The apartment owners’ association too raise a similar demand hinting at the water consumption by each unit. They said that the government must amend the existing rules and facilitate provision for separate connections.
The Kerala Water Supply and Sewerage Act of 1986 and Kerala Water Authority Regulations of 1991 will have to be amended.
