The much-awaited construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant proposed in Basai has hit a fresh hurdle as the Bhure Lal Committee has termed the plant insufficient for Gurugram.
The move comes following a meeting held between the panel and officials of the urban local bodies department. According to the MCG officials, the committee pointed out that though the city generates around 800 tonnes of waste per day, the capacity of the proposed waste plant is 300 tonnes per day.
According to a letter written to the corporation, MCG has also been asked to visit either Indore or Ahmedabad for a better understanding of the C&D waste plants.
ND Vashisht , chief engineer, MCG, when asked about the matter, said, “We have come to know about the development and are planning to use the four, already commissioned, mobile C&D plants to cater to the additional C&D waste.” “These plants will treat the waste at the locations where the waste is mobilised and then the treated waste will be taken from there. Through this, we will be able to address the major volume of C&D waste generated in the city on a daily basis,” Vashisht added.
The proposed waste plant project in Basai has already been delayed multiple times. The C&D waste plant project, which is Haryana’s first such initiative, was announced in May 2017, with the completion deadline of 2017-end. However, the project hit a roadblock after a Delhi-based NGO filed a case, claiming the project had been proposed on a wetland.
The case went on till January this year when NGT vacated the stay and gave a nod to project, provided all required cl clearance and permissions were in place. The total cost of the project is around Rs 13 crore. To make things worse, the project is being developed by IL&FS which is currently going through a financial crisis and in the current circumstances, the project’s future seems uncertain again.
