As official partners of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Ambuja Cement, supported by Geocycle, the waste management solutions unit of LafargeHolcim, will carry out this clean-up initiative from March 12-March 20, 2021 after the matches. Sporting events create massive amounts of waste and have a large carbon footprint. The 5-match series at the world’s largest cricket stadium will create 3-4 tonnes of waste and approximately 1 tonne of single use plastic. Enabling a circular economy model, the collected waste will be re-purposed and safely managed through co-processing in the cement kiln at Ambujanagar plant in Gujarat. This technology is recognized globally and is one of the safest methods of waste management. By supporting Ambuja Cements with its expertise and knowledge, Geocycle is leading the way in making our planet a better place for future generations.“Waste management is becoming a critical need for the planet. Led by our Hon’ble Prime Minister, India is setting new benchmarks in environmental cleanliness through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. We, at Ambuja Cement are committed to managing our own waste. Our collaboration with BCCI, brings us a step closer to building a cleaner future. Our waste management division, Geocycle has taken many initiatives in past to help India reach its ambitious goals on environment.” said, Neeraj Akhoury, CEO LafargeHolcim India and Managing Director & CEO, Ambuja Cements Limited.
