The Tamil Nadu government is set to open 27 new sand quarries across the state in a phased manner to cater to the needs of the construction industry in a month.
Three of these quarries would be opened in Thanjavur and Namakkal districts.
The 27 new quarries are to be opened by August-end to bring down the demand for sand for construction activities that had witnessed a lull after the government closed all sand quarries last year following a Madras high court order.
